June and July photos

Hello everyone...

Here are some photos from the end of June and beginning of July.

We spent the 4th in Kimball with Jim's family. Anderson experienced his "first" 4th this year because last year we were driving down to Lincoln and missed out on all the fireworks. So Daddy helped him with his first sparkler...he seemed to like it ok. He never cried or mae a fuss when the big firecrackers were going off. He even fell asleep on Aunt Julie's lap during the show. So I guess the noise was not a factor.

Jim and I put in new cabinets in our kitchen and then put the old ones up in the garage. He is beginning to plan the bathroom remodel. We are hoping to have the "projects" done by the end of the summer. Jim also stays busy working at both his jobs and doing yard work. He also spends Wednesdays with Anderson and I....this last week we went to the children's zoo with Grammy Shirley.

As for me, I am still enjoying my summer with Anderson. I have also had time to read books...not textbooks! But the summer is winding down...I'll be sad to see summer end, sleeping in (when Andy let's me) and not having to study. I have started to prepare for school by purchasing school supplies and my textbooks.

Jim and I are taking a summer class together....Beginning Ballroom! We had our first class last week and learned some steps for the waltz and swing dances. We had a blast and we're looking forward to the weeks to come. It's held at the Pla Mor ballroom and we meet every Monday night. Jim wants to get matching outfits...like Dancing with the Stars....I guess we will have to get spray on tans too...

Take care, The Barretts

Kellie's Class trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo

We took a class trip to the Henry oorly Zoo earlier this spring. We visited the aquarium....Ughhh fish, the penguins and the giraffes. It was very exciting and a highlight of second semester. I was able to pet penguins and the baby giraffe. One of the penguins bit me but I survived. Enjoy the pics!

Children's Zoo trip with Grandma Galusha

One Saturday, my mom and I took Anderson to the zoo. He was not feeling very well and actually fell asleep on the train ride. He was getting a molar in and that is why he doesn't look his happy self. He was able to see lots of animals --- I took a few pictures. Enjoy the pictures....

A Long Overdue Update for the Barretts

Sorry that it has been so long since I have updated this blog! I have added some pictures in two slide shows. One includes Anderson's First Birthday!

So what has been going on with the Barretts?

First, Anderson is almost 14 months old and full of little boy energy! He is walking and running. It is hard to keep up with him. He is spending lots of time playing an exploring. We take a walk almost everyday and he loves to be outside. He is growing up way to fast and I am enjoying his curiosity. It is amazing to see him discover new things and see the wonder in his eyes. He is trully a gift and we treasure him.

Jim is working hard at Lifepointe and working even harder lately because one of his co-workers left. He is still working part time in David City at a nursing home. I am amazed at how much he can do and still give Anderson and I lots of quality time. He has been working hard doing yard work and making the outside of our home beautiful. He and I spent an afternoon putting in bricks around our mailbox...he did most of the work but I did help. He is almost done with all the outdoor projects and that is a good thing because the summer heat and humidity are just around the corner. Then he will be putting in new kitchen cabinets and microwave. Then a bathroom remodel...hopefully we can accomplish all these projects before summer comes to an end.

As for me, I have officially finished my first year of vet school! Yipppeee! The last 3 weeks were pretty rough...we had 2 tests, a 10 page paper, another paper and presentation, 7 finals and an 8 page final paper. I survived...even though at times I thought it would never end. So now I will spend lots of time with Anderson and Jim. It has been a relaxing few weeks. We have already been to both the Omaha and Lincoln Zoos...I think that I like the zoo more than Andy though...hopefully he will learn to love it too! We will be heading toward Kimball in a few weeks to spend time with Jim's family and we are looking forward to getting out of Lincoln, even if it is only for a few days.

I will try to keep up this summer and add lots of pictures! I hope everyone is well, please email me and update us on everything you are up to this summer! Take care!

Christmas Slide show!

Happy New Year!

Hello all! Sorry that it has been a few months since I have blogged. We've been busy...school, work, the holidays and trying to keep up with a crawling soon to be 9 month old!

My first semester of vet school ended with 4 finals; anatomy id (of the cat, dog and pig), biochemistry, anatomy written test and physiology. I ended up with an A, B+, B, and a C for my 4 classes. Pretty good for taking 18 credit hours and being a full time momma. Next semester I have large animal anatomy (equine, bovine, ovine & caprine-horse, cow, sheep & goat), physiology, immunology, neurobiology, foundations, & pathology...22 credit hours. I guess I'll be even busier. I may also be taking a shelter medicine course that meets once a week during lunch.

Jim is busy at work and he's been working part time at a nursing home in David City. Our house projects have started...a new garage door & opener, installing electricity to the garage, and we just added a new stove for the kitchen. Next on the project list is adding more insulation in the attic and new cabinets to the kitchen. Eventually we will be remodeling the upstairs bathroom and the basement living room area.

I am enjoying my break from school to spend time with Anderson. He is growing up quickly. One day he was stationary and the next day he was crawling. Now I can't turn my back for a minute before he's crawled into the kitchen to play in the cat's drinking fountain. He's saying mama, dada and nana...and some other noises that I can only imagine what they mean. But its his own little language. When we say mama to him he always replies by saying dada. He thinks its funny and so does daddy.

We had a wonderful Christmas. The weekend before Christmas we ventured to Kimball to spend with the Barretts, Birners, Beckers and Grandma Morgan. Anderson had the biggest present "tower" and he seemed to enjoy ripping the paper. He also had fun playing with his cousins and loved Grandma & Papa's train that went around the Christmas tree. Christmas eve we went to my Aunt Cyndi & Uncle Jack's for the Galusha celebration. Anderson finally met his 2nd cousin, Jake, the Colorado state football star. Anderson must have been on Santa's nice list because our Christmas tree had lots of gifts for the boy. Included was a tickle me Elmo, a rocking cow (instead of a horse), a racetrack with cars and some books. Grandma & Grandpa Galusha hosted breakfast on Christmas day and we opened presents with them & Uncle Frank. We finished our Christmas on Wednesday at Grammy & Grampy Jackson's apartment.

The holiday season was a good one, spending quality time together as a family and seeing other family and friends. We are very blessed. We hope to see Stacey and Phil in the next month or so.

School starts back up on Jan 14th. In the meantime, I will enjoy spending time with Anderson and Jim. I hope to read a few books for pleasure before my studying begins again.

We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and hope that you have a happy new year!!!
